Checking poly V-belt
Checking poly V-belt
–  Crank engine at vibration damper/belt pulley using a socket.
–  Check poly V-belt for:
t  Sub-surface cracks (cracks, core ruptures, cross sectional breaks)
t  Layer separation (top layer, cord strands)
t  Base break-up
t  Fraying of cord strands
t  Flank wear (material wear, frayed flanks, flank brittleness -glassy flanks-, surface cracks)
t  Traces of oil and grease
  Caution
If faults are found, it is essential for the poly V-belt to be renewed. This will avoid possible breakdowns or operating problems.
