Note:

Perform work on driveshaft on a two-column lift if possible.

Before removing, mark the positions of all parts in relation to each other. Reinstall in the same position otherwise imbalance will be excessive,
the bearings could be damaged causing rumbling noises.
^
Do not allow driveshaft to hang down when removing, always support.
^
Always remove or install driveshaft horizontally on drive flange.
^
Do not kink driveshaft, only store and move when fully extended.
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
^
Torque wrench 5-50 Nm VAG 1331
^
Torque wrench 40-200 Nm VAG 1332
^
Engine/transmission jack VAG 1383A with universal transmission adapter VAG 1359/2
Removing
-
Remove the noise insulation.

Remove the entire exhaust system.

Support the driveshaft with the engine/transmission jack VAG 1383A and a wooden block -A- to help.
-
Then remove the heat shield -arrows- and the driveshaft center bearing.
-
After removing the heat shield, install the center bearing -arrows- to continue removing the driveshaft.
