Disengage forward harness connector -1 - from Engine Control Module (ECM) and disconnect it.

-

Pry up locking mechanism - 2 - slightly.

Slide Engine Control Module (ECM) out of retainer - arrow -.

-

Disengage rear harness connector from Engine Control Module (ECM) and disconnect it.

Installing

-

Connect rear harness connector to Engine Control Module (ECM) and engage it.

-

Slide Engine Control Module (ECM) on to retaining plate.

-

Connect front harness connector to Engine Control Module (ECM) and engage it.

-

Install plenum chamber bulkhead.

-

Install wiper arms and plenum chamber cover.

Engine Control Module (ECM) with anti-theft immobilizer, removing and installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Locking pliers

-

Electric cutter V.A.G 1561A

Saw set V.A.G 1561/14

Hot air gun from wiring harness repair kit VAS 1978

NOTE:  If it is desired to replace Engine Control Module (ECM), connect Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 and
perform the guided function "Replace control module".

Removing

-

Switch off ignition.

-

Remove windshield wiper arms, plenum chamber cover and plenum chamber facing wall.
