Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair
Left Flange Shaft Seal, With Transmission Installed

 

Left Flange Shaft Seal, with Transmission Installed - 0A4, 5 Speed M/T

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

^

Slide hammer VW 771

^

Pulling hook VW 771/37

^

Thrust piece T10160

^

Drip tray V.A.G 1306

^

Torque Wrench V.A.G 1331

Removing

-

Remove left wheel.

-

Remove noise insulation.

-

Remove the lower part of the left front wheel housing liner.

-

Turn steering fully onto left lock.

-

Remove drive axle from flange shaft.

-

Tie up drive axle as high as possible. Do not damage paint on drive axle when doing so.

-

Place appropriate receptacle underneath transmission.

-

Remove bolts for flange shaft, by screwing two bolts into the flange and counter-holding flange shaft using a pry bar.

-

Pull out flange shaft with spring.

-

Pull out sealing ring for flange shaft using slide hammer-complete set VW 771 and additional part for VW771 VW 771/37.
