The original equipment transmission upshift/ back-up light switch Part No. 171 919 823J has been superceded by a new switch Part No. 191 919 823.
The wiring of the switch connector must be changed after installing a new switch.
Rabbit - Through m.y. 1984

move Green/Blue wire from terminal 1 to terminal 2

move Brown wire from terminal 3 to terminal 7
On 4-speed transmissions, ^ move Brown wire from terminal 5 to terminal 6
On 5-speed transmissions, ^ remove Brown wire from terminal 5 and tape to wiring harness
^
move Violet/Yellow wire from terminal 4 to terminal 5 (on both 4-speed and 5-speed transmissions)
