Timing Belt: Procedures
Ribbed Belt, Checking
-
Turn engine at vibration damper/ belt pulley with socket wrench.
Check ribbed belt - 1 - for:
‹› Sub-surface cracks (cracks, core ruptures, cross sectional breaks)
‹› Separation (cover layer, belt cords)
‹› Breaks at lower layer
‹› Fraying of cords
‹› Wear at flanks (material wear, frayed flanks, hardening or glazing of flanks, surface cracks)
‹› Oil or grease contamination
CAUTION!
‹› Replace the belt if any damage is found.
‹› By replacing, failures and/or disturbances can be avoided.
‹› Replacing the belt is a repair procedure.
