Water Pump: Service and Repair
Coolant Pump

Coolant Pump

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Drip tray (VAG 1306)

‹› Torque wrench (5 to 50 Nm) (VAG 1331)

Removing

-

Remove front bumper. Refer to Removal and Installation. 

-

Bring the lock carrier into service position. Refer to --> Body Exterior 50 Description  and Operation.  See: Body and Frame/Lock Carrier

-

Set crankshaft to Top Dead Center (TDC) cylinder 1. Refer to --> [ Valve Timing Checking ] See: Engine/Cylinder Head Assembly/Testing and
Inspection.

Remove vibration damper --> [ (Item 4) Vibration damper ] See: Engine/Cylinder Block Assembly/Sealing Flange, Engine Front/Service and
Repair.

Drain the cooling system. Refer to --> [ Cooling System, Draining and Filling ] See: Service and Repair/Procedures. 

-

Disconnect coolant hose - 3 - from coolant pipe.  Remove the bolts - 1 - and - 2 - and fold the  coolant pipe forward.

Remove coolant drain plugs --> [ (Item 2) Coolant drain plug, 40 Nm ] See: Coolant Pump Assembly Overview.

Remove coolant pump cover --> [ (Item 5) Coolant pump cover ] See: Coolant Pump Assembly Overview.

-

Remove the coolant pump - arrows - bolts and remove  coolant pump.
