Camshaft Oil Seal: Service and Repair

Camshaft Seals, Replacing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Seal remover (3240)

‹› Pulling fixture (3241)

Removing

-

Remove toothed belt and camshaft gears --> [ Toothed Belt, Removing, Installing and Tensioning ] See: Timing Components/Timing Belt/Service
and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Toothed Belt, Removing, Installing and Tensioning.

Remove inner portion of seal extractor (3240) several rotations from outer portion and secure with knurled-head bolt.

Lubricate threaded head of seal extractor, position and with forced pressure install oil seal as far as possible.

Loosen knurled bolt and turn inner part against camshaft until seal is removed.

Secure seal remover in a vice at flat spots. Remove seal using pliers 

Installing

-

Set oil seal in place and press in until stop using thrust sleeve (3241/1) and bolt (3241/6).
