‹› Old oil collecting and extracting device (VAG 1782)
‹› Protective eyewear
‹› Hand drill with plastic brush attachment
‹› Sealant
Removing
‹› The upper oil pan can only be removed or installed with the engine removed.

Place old oil collecting and extracting device (VAG 1782) under engine and drain engine oil.

Separate engine and transmission. Refer to --> [ Separating transmission from engine ] See: Service and Repair/Engine Removing.

Secure engine on the engine and transmission holder (VAS 6095). Refer to --> [ Engine, Securing on Engine and Transmission Holder ] See:

Remove drive plate. Refer to --> [ Drive Plate ] See: Transmission and Drivetrain/Flex Plate/Service and Repair/Drive Plate.

Remove left and right timing chain covers. Refer to --> [ Left and Right Timing Chain Covers ] See: Timing Components/Timing Cover/Service

Remove intake manifold. Refer to --> [ Intake Manifold ] See: Intake Manifold/Service and Repair/Intake Manifold.

Remove oil filter housing. Refer to --> [ Oil Filter Housing ] See: Oil Filter Housing/Service and Repair/Oil Filter Housing.

Remove lower timing chain cover. Refer to --> [ Lower Timing Chain Cover ] See: Timing Components/Timing Chain/Service and Repair/Lower

‹› Before removing ribbed belt, mark the turning direction on it with chalk or a felt tip pen. A reversed turning direction can cause damage to the
ribbed belt under operating conditions.

Pivot tensioner in - direction of arrow - to relieve tension on ribbed belt

Remove ribbed belt and release tensioner.
