Brake Bleeding: Service and Repair
Bleeding with Brake Charger/Bleeder Unit VAS 5234 or VAG 1869
Bleeding with Brake Charger/Bleeder Unit VAS 5234 or VAG 1869
Description covers bleeding of the brake system using the brake charger/bleeder unit (VAS 5234) or (VAG 1869).
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
‹› Brake charger/bleeder unit (VAS 5234) or
‹› Brake charger/bleeder unit (VAG 1869)
‹› Suction adapters (VAG 1869/4)
‹› If one chamber of the brake fluid reservoir has run completely empty (e.g. leak in the brake system), the brake system must be pre-bled first.
Pre-bleeding
‹› There are two bleeder valves installed on Brembo brake calipers Always bleed at both bleeder valves.
‹› Bleed at outer bleeder valve first.
-
Connect the brake charger/bleeding unit (VAS 5234) or (VAG 1869).
Bleeding sequence:
1 - Bleed the left and right front brake calipers together simultaneously.
2 - Bleed left and right rear brake calipers together simultaneously.
-
With the bleeder bottle hoses attached, leave bleeder valves open long enough that brake fluid exits without bubbles.
Then the hydraulic unit must be bled once more via function " Basic Setting" using the (VAS 5051).
Initiate basic setting (to bleed brake system):
(VAS 5051), connecting and selecting functions. Refer to --> [ VAS 5051, Connecting and Selecting Functions ] See: Antilock Brakes / Traction
Control Systems/Testing and Inspection/Scan Tool Testing and Procedures.
-
Then, the brake system must be bled normally
After bleeding the brake system, basic setting for brake pressure sensor 1 (G201) must be performed.
Bleeding
Adhere strictly to work sequence when bleeding the brake system.
‹› There are two bleeder valves installed on Brembo brake calipers Always bleed at both bleeder valves.
‹› Bleed at outer bleeder valve first.
-
Connect the brake charger/bleeding unit (VAS 5234) or (VAG 1869).
-
Open bleeder valves in the prescribed sequence and bleed the brake calipers.
1 - Right rear brake caliper
2 - Left rear brake caliper
3 - Right front brake caliper
4- Left front brake caliper
Use a suitable bleeder hose. It must fit tightly on bleeder valve so that no air gets into brake system.
