Removing and Installing Moulded Headlining for VW Up!

Releasing and securing moulded headliner without sliding/tilting sunroof

Releasing

–	Switch off ignition.

–	Remove interior rear view mirror → Chapter.

–	Remove emergency braking function sensor unit -J939- → Chapter.

–	Remove lights and switches from headliner → Electrical system; Rep. gr.96.

–	Remove upper left and right A-pillar trim → Chapter.

–	Remove upper left and right B-pillar trim → Chapter.

–	Remove left and right C-pillar trim → Chapter.

–	Remove left and right sun visors → Chapter.

–	Remove left and right sun visor mounts → Chapter.

–	Remove grab handles on left and right sides of roof → Chapter

–	Unscrew bolts -1- (2 Nm).

–	Carefully unlatch retaining clips -2- from rear roof cross member.

Note

Retaining clips -2- must always be renewed before installation.

–	Detach moulded headliner -3- from door seal beading and lower.

–	Lower moulded headliner -3- with help of second mechanic (danger of breakage).

Securing

Note

Before installing, check all fasteners for damage and renew if necessary.

–	Install in reverse order of removal. When doing this, observe the following:

–	Locate moulded headliner -3- with help of second mechanic.

–	Engage retaining clips -2- in roof cross member.

–	Screw in bolts -1- (2 Nm).

The remaining installation process is analogous.
