Working on refrigerant circuit
Only work on the refrigerant circuit in well ventilated rooms. Note that within a radius of 5 m there must be no assembly pits, manholes or cellar access stairs. Switch on the available exhaust gas extraction systems.
Reason:
Escaping refrigerant is not only transparent and odourless, but also heavier than air, i.e. oxygen is being displaced. If, despite observing all safety precautions, refrigerant gas still escapes, there is a danger of suffocation in badly ventilated rooms or assembly pits which cannot be perceived in advance.
  Note
The mixture of refrigerant gas and air which forms due to escaping refrigerant must not be inhaled. Extract the gas/air mixture using appropriate exhaust gas extraction systems (workshop fume extraction system).
Do not weld, braze or soft-solder any parts of the charged air conditioning system. This also applies to welding and soldering work on the vehicle when the danger exists that parts of the air conditioning system may heat up.
Reason:
Heat leads to high pressure in the system which may cause the system to burst.
Precautions:
Drain refrigerant circuit → Chapter.
  Note
Damaged or leaking components of the air conditioning system must not be repaired by welding or soldering. They must always be renewed.
When performing repair work on the air conditioning system, all opened components and line connections of the air conditioning systems must be closed immediately.
Reason:
If components of the air conditioning system remain open for a longer period of time, humidity will enter the system. If an air conditioning system was kept open for a longer period of time, parts of the system must be renewed before refilling the system.
