Ignition Coil: Testing and Inspection

One of two different ignition coils are used on cars with CIS-TURBO engine management systems.

Version I

Disconnect the harness plug from the ignition coil power stage.
Remove the high tension wire from the coil.

Version II

Disconnect the harness plug from the ignition coil power stage.
Remove the high tension wire from the coil
Remove the screw from the terminal cover to gain access to the terminals.

1.

Check resistance between terminals 1 and 4 of the coil.

Resistance should be 5K - 9K ohms.

2.

Check resistance between terminals 1 and 15 of the coil.

^

Resistance should be 0.5 - 1.5 ohms.
