Servicing gearbox housing and clutch housing

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Press tool -VW 408 A-

t	Spacer sleeve -VW 472/2-

t	Centring mandrel -12 - 551-

t	Press tool -30 - 555-

t	Threaded rod from assembly device -3066-

t	Thrust piece -3124-

t	Press tool -VW 412-

t	Tube -VW 415 A-

t	Tube -VW 516-

t	-1- Kukko 21/3 internal puller

t	-2- Kukko 18/1 puller

t	-3- Kukko 17/1 splitter

t	-4- Kukko 22/1 counter-support

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Multi-point bit -3357-

t  Thrust piece -T40008-

Driving in input shaft oil seal so it is flush

Pulling out oil seal sleeve –  Apply spacer sleeve -VW 472/2- and press tool -30 - 555- to differential. A -  Puller, e.g. -Kukko 18/1- B -  Splitter 12...75 mm, e.g. -Kukko 17/1-

Drawing in oil seal sleeve A -  Screw threaded rod from assembly device -3066- into threaded piece in differential. B -  M12 nut with washer –  Turn nut -B- and pull sleeve in onto stop with thrust piece -3124-.   Note If gearbox has been dismantled, press in sleeve onto stop using thrust piece -3124-.

Driving out selector shaft sleeve -A-

Driving in selector shaft sleeve -A-

Pulling roller bearing out of clutch housing –  When pulling out, compress circlip -arrow- for roller bearing using pliers -C-. A -  Counter-support, e.g. -Kukko 22/1- B -  Internal puller 30 ... 37 mm, e.g. -Kukko 21/5-

Pressing roller bearing into clutch housing –  Support clutch housing using tube -VW 415 A- (not visible in diagram) directly under bearing mounting. –  When pressing in, compress circlip -arrow- for roller bearing using pliers -A-. –  Remove the pliers before the roller bearing is in its final position. t  The circlip must engage in the groove in the clutch housing.
