Removing and installing selector mechanism

Removing –  Remove gear knob with gear lever boot → Chapter. –  Remove centre console → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.68. –  Remove heat shield in centre tunnel → Rep. gr.66.

–  Remove air cleaner housing → Injection and ignition system; Rep. gr.24.

–  Remove securing clip -2-. –  Pull gear selector cable -1- off gearbox selector lever -4-.   Note -Item 3- can be disregarded.

l  To avoid damage to the gate selector cable, the cable end-piece must be separated from the gate selector cable before removal. –  Pull locking mechanism forwards -arrow 1- onto stop and then turn to left -arrow 2- to lock. –  Push gate relay lever forwards in direction of -arrow 3-.

–  Remove bolts -arrows- for cable support bracket -1-.

–  Remove nuts -arrows- and detach selector mechanism from below. Installing l  Tightening torque → Chapter Installation is carried out in reverse sequence; note the following: –  Insert selector mechanism and tighten nuts -arrows-.

–  Apply a small amount of grease -G 000 450 02- to pin -arrow- of gearbox selector lever -1-. –  Push gear selector cable -2- onto pin -arrow- and secure with new securing clip -3-. –  Insert gate selector cable in cable end-piece on gate relay lever.

–  Secure cable support bracket to gearbox -arrows-. –  Adjust selector mechanism → Chapter. –  Install air cleaner housing → Injection and glow plug system; Rep. gr.23. –  Install heat shield in centre tunnel → Rep. gr.66. –  Install centre console → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.68. –  Install gear knob with gear lever boot → Chapter.
