Bleeding brake system

Bleeding of the brake system is described using brake filling and bleeding unit V.A.G 1869.

Special feature of vehicles with ABS/EDL

If a chamber of the brake fluid reservoir is completely empty (e.g. in the event of leakage in the brake system) the hydraulic unit must be bled via the "Basic setting" function and the fault reader V.A.G 1551.

Important: For vehicles with ABS/EDL
When filling up brake fluid with a filling and bleeding unit, e.g. V.A.G

For this reason, the brake fluid pressure must be reduced to 1 bar on filler and bleeder unit V.A.G 1869. => Operating instructions for V.A.G 1869

If the filling pressure of 1 bar is exceeded, it may not be possible to bleed the hydraulic unit properly.

Initiating basic setting

  • ◆ Bleeding of the brake system on vehicles with ABS is performed in the same manner as for vehicles with a conventional braking system
  • ◆ Only use fresh brake fluid with Part No. B 000 700 A. (please specify the container index in place of the point).
  • ◆ Brake fluid is poisonous. On account of its corrosive effect it must also never be allowed to come into contact with paint.
  • ◆ Brake fluid is hygroscopic, i.e. it absorbs moisture from the surrounding atmosphere. It is thus always to be kept in containers with an air-tight seal.
  • ◆ Use plenty of water to rinse away any brake fluid spillage.
