Encoding the control unit
  Note
t  Control unit encoding is only possible using testers in which a workshop code has been entered.
t  If encoding is performed on operating and display units for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- installed at the start of production, “Function unknown or currently unable to be performed” appears in display zone -1-.
t  The operating and display units for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- will be modified before the Audi A2 is available with a “heated front windscreen” or a “sunroof with integrated solar cells”. The modified operating and display units for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- will then have to be encoded.
–  With the ignition off, connect the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051- by the diagnostic cable -VAS 5051/5A-, for example, to the 16-pin diagnostic socket in the vehicle and use the address word “08” to select the electronic climate/heater control → Chapter.
Prerequisite:
t  The fault memory must have been interrogated → Chapter, displayed faults rectified and the fault memory erased → Chapter.
t  The air conditioner must be switched on (“Auto” mode).
t  An operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- must be installed which is intended for encoding
   
Indicated on the display of the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051-:
–  Select the function “07 - Encoding the control unit”.

Indicated on the display of the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051-:
t  The prompt for entering the code appears in display zone -1-.
t  An input keypad appears in display zone -2-.
t  The fourth line of display zone -3- indicates the current valid code, with the previous code shown in brackets.

t  The fifth line of display zone -3- indicates the workshop code which is entered in your vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051-.
–  The specified code can now be entered in display zone -2- in the operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- which is intended for encoding.
