Interrogating fault memory

–	With the ignition off, connect the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051- with the diagnostic cable -VAS 5051/5A- to the 16-pin diagnostic socket in the vehicle and use the address word “08” to select electronic climate/heater control → Chapter.

Indicated on the display of the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051-:

–	Select function “02 - Interrogate fault memory”.

Indicated on the display of the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051-:

t	The number of stored faults appears in display zone -1-.

t	The fault code, fault location and type of faults stored appear in display zone -2-.

Note

t	Press the ← key to return to the selection program.

t	If there has been no fault detected but complaints have been received about the air conditioner (e.g. compressor cooling not operating or only intermittently, inadequate system regulation, no control of the fresh-air blower speed):

t	1. Read measured value block 08 → Chapter

t	2. Perform final control diagnosis (Function 03) → Chapter.

t	3. Check air conditioner refrigeration capacity → Chapter.

t	If fault(s) was/were detected:

t	1. Rectify fault.

t	2. Interrogate fault memory (function 02).

t	3. Erase fault memory (function 05).

t	4. Check the encoding of the operating and display units for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- or of the dash panel insert control unit -J285- → Chapter.

t	5. Perform basic setting (function 04).

t	6. Interrogate fault memory (function 02) and erase if applicable (function 05).

t	7. End output (function 06).

Indicated on the display of the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051-:

–	End output (function 06) → Chapter.

–	Switch off the ignition and unplug the diagnostic connector.
