Installing
Installing
When servicing drive shaft or renewing flange shaft for triple roller joint, these parts must be cleaned and greased.
Grease quantity and type → Chapter
–  Remove any paint or adhesive residue and/or corrosion on thread and splines of outer drive shaft joint.
–  Remove any remaining locking fluid from splines on outer drive shaft joint and splines of wheel hub.
Splines on outer joint and splines of wheel hub must be free of oil and grease.
–  Insert drive shaft into joint body of triple roller joint (according to markings) and push boot onto joint.
   
–  Apply two beads of locking fluid -D 185 400 A2- on splines as illustrated. Bead diameter approx. 2 mm.
1 - Outer joint
2 - Bead approximately in centre of splines
3 - Bead near beginning of splines
4 - Grease threads of outer joint (stub axle) after assembly.
–  Insert outer joint into splines of wheel hub.
–  Grease threads of outer joint -4- all round with solid grease -G 052 751 A1-.
–  Install and tighten new hexagon socket nut (pressed-steel version) → Item.

–  Install new self-locking nut on swivel joint, counterholding with 5 mm Allen key.
1 - 5 mm Allen key, shortened approx. 10 mm
2 - Ring spanner insert or slotted ring spanner insert → Anchor, Fig. V40-1323
3 - Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-

–  Ring spanner inserts:
1 - Ring spanner insert (commercial type, 16 mm)
2 - Slotted ring spanner insert (commercial type, 16 mm)
  Note!
Ensure rubber boot is not damaged or twisted.
–  Position boot on joint body of triple roller joint and install hose clip.
–  Install guard plate above drive shaft.

–  Secure coupling rod to wishbone -2- using new bolt -1-.
–  Install noise insulation.
–  Fit and secure wheel → Chapter.
