If readout value deviates from specified value, note:
Adjustment screw must always be turned to left first (unscrew), then to right (screwed in) again. Only in this manner it can be ensured that teeth flanks
of thread have contact play-free.

Example:
Measured play is too small.

Unscrew adjustment screw 4 graduation marks to left and then screw in 1 graduation mark to right.

Measured play is too great.

Unscrew adjustment screw 2 graduation marks to left and then screw in 4 graduation marks to right.

Turn steering pinion to left and right until stop. Check play by turning rack with a torque of 40 Nm.

Note:

If specified values for rack play cannot be reached, steering gear must be replaced completely!

To check again, turn steering from stop to stop, using a 14 mm open end wrench.

Steering must not stick while turning.

Turn steering gear to straight-ahead position again.

Remove dial gauge holder and adapter, press buffer pad into adjustment screw.

Install boots with new clamp to steering gear housing.

-

Install steering gear.

After installing, basic setting for Steering Angle Sensor G85 must be performed using Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System VAS
5051B.

Perform basic setting.

-

Perform vehicle alignment.
