Boots, removing and installing

Locking pliers VAS 6199 for steering gear

Torque wrench V.A.G 1332

Hose clamp pliers V.A.G 1275

Removing
Note:

If boots is damaged, moisture and dirt enters steering gear. Lubrication film must be noticeable in area of rack splines. steering gear must be
replaced if no lubrication film can be felt. steering gear must also be replaced if there are signs of corrosion, damage or wear of rack.

Turn steering wheel to straight-ahead position.

Remove wheel.

Clean outer steering gear in area of boots.
Dirt must not enter steering gear through damaged boots while cleaning.
