Mark position of nut - 3 - on tie rod.

-

Loosen nut - 3 -, counterhold at tie rod end - 2 - while doing so.

Loosen spring clip - 1 - from boots using Hose clamp pliers V.A.G 1275 and slide onto tie rod.

-

Remove clamp from steering gear housing and remove boots.

-

Unscrew tie rod from tie rod end.

-

Pull boots with spring clip off tie rod.

Installing 

Before installing, rack must be lubricated with grease G 052 192 A1 supplied in repair kit.

Do not use any other type of grease.

For this, turn steering wheel to left and right until stop.

For better depiction, steering gear is removed in illustration.

Grease rack on teeth side - a - and thrust piece side.

-

Turn steering wheel to straight-ahead position.

Lubricate sealing surfaces of steering gear housing/boots with supplied grease G 052 168 A1.

Guide new clamps and boots onto tie rod.

-

Thread in tie rod until marking applied upon removal.

-

Loosen lock nut - 3 - to tightening torque, counterhold at tie rod end - 2 - while doing so.
