Interrogating fault memory > < General notes
Body Self-diagnosis
Self-diagnosis of airbag system BTU (Basic Triggering Unit) with and without side airbag
Initiating self-diagnosis of airbag system

Test requirements:

  • ◆ Voltage supply and fuses for the relevant systems OK.

=> Current Flow Diagrams, Electrical Fault-finding and Fitting Locations binder

  • ◆ Connect fault reader V.A.G 1551
    .
  • ◆ Switch ignition on.

Notes:

  • ◆ Only short-term faults are shown as "sporadically occurring faults" and marked with "/SP" on the display.
  • ◆ In order to eliminate such sporadically occurring faults the fault memory must be erased before repair.
  • ◆ Additional operating instructions can be called up with the fault reader HELP key.
  • ◆ The ⇒ key is used for the continuation of the program sequence.
  • ‒ Switch on printer with the Print key (indicator lamp in key lights up).
  • ‒ Press key 1 for "Rapid data transfer".
 
→ Indicated on display:
Rapid data transfer     HELP
Enter address word XX

Address word for airbag system: 15

  • ‒ Press keys -1- and -5-.
 
→ Indicated on display:
Rapid data transfer     Q
15 - Airbag
  • ‒ Confirm input with Q key.
 
→ Indicated on display:
Rapid data transfer     HELP
Tester sends address word 15

Vehicles ä 1998 without side airbags:

 
→ After about 5 seconds, the following appears on the display:
1J0909601A    Airbag VW3     V01 ⇒
Code 00065    WSC 06812

Vehicles ä 1998 with side airbags and vehicles 1998 ä:

 
→ After approximately 5 seconds; the display will indicate the following, for example:
8L0959655F    Airbag 7     AUDI D00 ⇒
Code 00104    WSC 06812

Vehicles as of production date CW 27.99:

 
→ After approx. 5 seconds the display indicates:
Airbag front + side or airbag front + head
8L0959655J    Airbag front + side    0004 ⇒
Code 01106    WSC 06812

All vehicles:

  • ‒ Continue through program procedure using the ⇒key.
