Notes on and preparation for retrofitting wiring harnesses (8E1 970 XXX)
l  Ignition switched off and ignition key removed
l  Earth strap at battery disconnected with ignition switched off
l  Glove box removed
l  Radio removed
–  Check whether wiring for retrofitting key-operated switch to deactivate airbag on front passenger side -E224- has already been fitted or whether a wiring harness has to be retrofitted:
t  Audi A4 2001 ► up to week 35/2004 (including Audi S4) → Chapter
t  Audi A4 2001 ► from week 36/2004 onwards (including Audi S4) → Chapter
Audi A4 2001 ► up to week 35/2004 (including Audi S4)
   
If there is no wiring harness installed for the warning lamp for airbag deactivated on front passenger side -K145- (blue 6-pin connector), the wiring harness 8E1 970 XXX (2 wires) must be retrofitted.
1 - Connector (6-pin, blue) for warning lamp for airbag deactivated on front passenger side -K145-
2 - Plug contact and wire for multi-pin connector for airbag control unit -J234-
–  Before fitting, additionally wrap fabric tape (dimension -a- = 150 mm) around wiring harness 8E1 970 XXX (2 wires).
  Note
The wires for the connector of the supply lead/wiring harness for glove box (12-pin, brown) are included as standard in the passenger compartment wiring harness (area: inside front).
Audi A4 2001 ► from week 36/2004 onwards (including Audi S4)

–  Remove ashtray (front) → General body repairs, interior; Rep. Gr.68.
–  Remove air conditioner operating element/heater controls → Heating, air conditioning; Rep. Gr.87.
–  Remove centre console → General body repairs, interior; Rep. Gr.68.
