Note:

Exclusive use is to be made for wiring harness and connector repairs of repair set VAS 1978.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

• ◆ Wiring harness repair set VAS 1978

Removing

• ‒ → If fitted, remove front left cover -arrows-.

• ‒ → If fitted, disconnect air intake hose for secondary air pump -1- from air cleaner housing.
• ‒ Detach air hose -2- at air-mass meter.
• ‒ Unplug connector for air-mass meter -3-.
• ‒ Screw out bolts -4- and -5-.
• ‒ Take out air cleaner housing.

• ‒ → Release -arrow 1- connector at control unit and unplug -arrow 2-.

• ‒ → Release cap on multi-pin connector with a screwdriver and detach.

• ‒ → Release secondary catch (violet) with a small screwdriver by pressing in direction of arrow.

→ Contact assignment of 25-pin connector at control unit -J104

=> Current Flow Diagrams, Electrical Fault-finding and Fitting Locations binder

→ Contact assignment of 47-pin connector at control unit -J104

=> Current Flow Diagrams, Electrical Fault-finding and Fitting Locations binder

• ‒ → Push out relevant contacts using suitable ejector tool from wiring harness repair set VAS 1978.

• ‒ → Unplug connector -1- of brake pad wear indicator at left brake.
• ‒ Unclip wire from holder -2-.
• ‒ Release connector at speed sensor and unplug.
• ‒ Remove defective speed sensor wire.

Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

• ‒ Fit new speed sensor wire.
• ‒ → Clip in speed sensor wire -arrows-.

Note:

Take care to avoid twisting in wheel housing when fitting speed sensor wire.

• ‒ Insert contact into connector housing.
• ‒ → Use VAS 1978 insertion tool to slide home individual wire seal.
• ‒ Secure contacts with secondary catch and attach cap to multi-pin connector.
