Note:

Exclusive use is to be made for wiring harness and connector repairs of repair set VAS 1978.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  • ◆ Wiring harness repair set VAS 1978

Removing

  • ‒ → Open cover -2- over speed sensor connector.
  • ‒ Unplug connector -1-.
 
A45-0048
  • ‒ Remove inner side trim/rear wheel housing trim.

=> General Body Repairs, Interior; Repair Group 70

  • ‒ → Pull insulating grommet -arrow- off wiring.

  • ‒ → Use stripping pliers VAS 1978/3 to sever speed sensor wire and take out defective section.

Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

  • ‒ → Strip 15 mm of insulation off end of wire with stripping pliers VAS 1978/3 and bend back bare part of wire over half its length.

  • ‒ Fit new speed sensor wire.
  • ‒ → Clip in speed sensor wire -arrows-.

Note:

Take care to avoid twisting in wheel housing when fitting speed sensor wire.

  • ‒ Plug in connector -1- and close cover -2-.
  • ‒ If fitted, use stripping pliers to cut off twin connector at new speed sensor wire.
  • ‒ Strip 15 mm of insulation off end of wire and bend back bare part of wire over half its length.
  • ‒ Use suitable crimp connector from wiring harness repair set VAS 1978 to connect speed sensor wire.

Note:

The instructions supplied with the wiring harness repair set VAS 1978 do not normally permit repairs to the ABS system wiring. This does however only apply to the screened wiring in the system.
