Special tools and workshop equipment required

  • ◆ Brake pedal depressor V.A.G 1869/2

Removing

  • ‒ Remove brake pads .
  • ‒ → Insert brake pedal depressor V.A.G 1869/2 between brake pedal and driver's seat. Depress brake pedal at least 60 mm.

Note:

This closes valves in brake master cylinder and stops brake fluid reservoir running empty.

  • ‒ Connect hose of bleeder bottle to bleed screw of rear brake caliper removed and front brake caliper on same side of vehicle.
  • ‒ Open bleed screws.
  • ‒ Close front bleed screw.
  • ‒ Leave brake pedal depressor V.A.G 1869/2 in position.
  • ‒ Unscrew brake hose from brake caliper.

Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

  • ‒ Fit brake pads => Page 46-34.
  • ‒ After fitting serviced or new brake caliper, adjust handbrake => Page 46-63. Do not press foot brake until handbrake has been adjusted.
  • ‒ Bleed brake system: ABS/ESP Mark 20 .

    1)    Replace brake hose/brake pipe with banjo bolt whenever banjo bolt has been slackened off
