Special tools and workshop equipment required

• ◆ VW 771 Multi-purpose tool
• ◆ VW771/37 Puller hooks
• ◆ 3303 Press piece
• ◆ V.A.G 1331 Torque wrench
• ◆ V.A.G 1332 Torque wrench

Removing

• ‒ Remove wheel.

• ‒ If fitted, remove centre and left part of insulation tray below engine/gearbox.
• ‒ Turn steering to left lock.
• ‒ Disconnect drive shaft from flange shaft.
• ‒ → Mark installation position of bolts -1-.
• ‒ Remove bolts -1-.
• ‒ Tie-up drive shaft as high as possible. Do not damage paint on drive shaft.

• ‒ Remove flange shaft securing bolts, to do this screw two bolts into the flange and counterhold flange shaft using a lever.
• ‒ Place container under the gearbox.
• ‒ Remove flange shaft with spring.
• ‒ → Pull flange shaft oil seal out using VW 771 and VW 771/37.

Installing

• ‒ → Drive new seal in onto stop, do not cant seal when doing this.
• ‒ Fill space between sealing lip and dust lip with sealing greaseG 052 128 A1.
• ‒ Insert flange shaft.
• ‒ Secure flange shaft with countersunk bolt.
• ‒ Connect swivel joint to wishbone using new bolts onto old impression marks.
• ‒ Bolt left-hand drive shaft to flange shaft.

• ‒ Fit wheel.
• ‒ Check gearbox oil =>Page 34-53.
• ‒ Install noise insulation tray.
