Dismantling and assembling 1st to 3rd gear clutch “K1”
   
Dismantling and assembling 1st to 3rd gear clutch “K1”
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Thrust plate -VW 401-
t  Thrust plate -VW 402-
t  Press tool -VW 412-
t  Press tool -VW 442-
t  Tube -40 - 203/1-

   
Removing and installing circlip
–  Press piston cap with intermediate spring ring down far enough for the circlip -arrow- to be prised out of or inserted into the groove.

Fitting pressure plate and clutch plates onto inner plate carrier
–  Fit pressure plate -a- as follows:
l  Smooth side faces inner plate.
l  Stepped side faces inner plate carrier.
–  Install 3 inner plates -b- and 2 outer plates -c- (1.5 mm).
–  Clip in supporting ring with step -arrows- facing upwards.
  Note
t  Engage locating lugs correctly.
t  Install corrugated washer and remaining plates in clutch housing → Fig..

Inserting corrugated washer and outer and inner plates into clutch housing
–  First insert corrugated washer.
–  Insert 2 mm thick outer plate.
–  Insert remaining inner and outer plates.

Inserting inner plate carrier and installing circlip
–  To fit circlip -black arrow-, lift inner plate carrier slightly -white arrows-.
