Dismantling and assembling 3rd and 4th gear clutch “K3” with turbine shaft

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Thrust plate -VW 401-

t	Thrust plate -VW 402-

t	Press tool -VW 407-

t	Assembly tool -3292-

Removing and installing circlip and piston

–	Carefully press down piston cap until circlip -arrow- can be removed/installed.

Removing and installing piston ring

Removing

–	Press ends of piston ring together and release by hand.

–	Press two ends of piston ring apart and remove; do not twist piston ring out of groove on one side.

Installing

–	Fit piston ring in groove.

–	To hook ends together press sides of ring in and guide ends over one another.

Checking seating of piston rings

Note

A piston ring is installed on the pump shaft inside the clutch housing.

–	Ensure that the ends of the piston rings are hooked together.

Installing O-ring

–	Insert O-ring in groove -arrow- of turbine shaft.
