Checking oil pressure and oil pressure switch -F1-

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Oil pressure tester -V.A.G 1342- with adapter -V.A.G 1342/14-

t	Voltage tester -V.A.G 1527 B-

t	Auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594 C-

Procedure l  Oil level OK l  Engine oil temperature approx. 80 °C l  Oil pressure warning lamp -K3- should come on when ignition is switched on. l  On vehicles with driver information system (DIS), the display “OK” should light up.

–  Remove engine cover -arrows- and cover in front of intake manifold.

–  Remove front left cover -arrows-.

Vehicles with exhaust temperature control: –  Unplug electrical connector -arrow- at exhaust gas temperature sender 1 -G235-.

All vehicles: –  Remove bolts -2- and -3- and detach retaining plate -4- from dipstick guide tube. –  Disengage coolant hose -1- from retaining plate. –  Move retaining plate to the side (hoses remain connected).

Checking oil pressure switch –  Unplug electrical connector at oil pressure switch -F1-. –  Unscrew oil pressure switch -F1-. –  Connect oil pressure tester -V.A.G 1342- with adapter -V.A.G 1342/14- to bore for oil pressure switch. –  Screw oil pressure switch -2- into oil pressure tester -V.A.G 1342-. –  Connect brown wire -1- of oil pressure tester to earth (“–”). –  Connect voltage tester -V.A.G 1527 B- with test leads from auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594 C- to oil pressure switch and battery positive (“+”). l  LED should not light up. If the LED lights up: –  Renew oil pressure switch. –  Start engine.   Note Observe tester and LED while starting, as switching point of oil pressure switch may already be exceeded when starting. l  LED should light up at 1.2 ... 1.6 bar. If LED does not light up: –  Renew oil pressure switch. Checking oil pressure –  Start engine. l  Minimum oil pressure at idling speed: 1.3 bar. l  Minimum oil pressure at 3500 rpm: 3.5 … 4.5 bar. The pressure relief valve or oil pump is defective if the specifications are not attained. –  Renew oil pump → Chapter. Assembling Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:   Note Renew seal for oil pressure switch. Tightening torque
