Removing

Important
On vehicles with telematics, activate service mode of telematics control unit before disconnecting battery.=>Radio, Telephone and Navigation System; Repair group 91
  • ‒ Refer to coding on vehicles with encoded radio/radio navigation system (non-OEM only); inquire as necessary.
  • ‒ Disconnect earth strap at battery with ignition switched off.
  • ‒ Drain coolant .
  • ‒ Remove ribbed belt => Page 13-9.
 
A13-0375
  • ‒ → Detach the alternator bolted connections -arrows- and move the alternator towards the front. Do not detach hydraulic connections.
 
A19-0042
  • ‒ → Remove coolant hose from connector -3-.
  • ‒ Remove bolt -4-, and detach connector, O-ring -2- and coolant thermostat -1-.

Installing

Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:

Replace O-ring.

  • ‒ Clean and smooth down sealing surface for O-ring as required.
  • ‒ Insert coolant thermostat.
    • ‒ Installation position: Cross-piece on thermostat should be vertical.
  • ‒ Coat new O-ring with coolant G 012 A8 D.
  • ‒ Install ribbed belt=> Page 13-11.
  • ‒ Top up coolant => Page 19-52.

Notes:

  • ◆ If the battery is reconnected, please ensure that the vehicle equipment (radio, radio/navigation system, clock, electric window lifters) is activated as described in the operating instructions.
  • ◆ Deactivate the service mode of the telematics control unit.

  • ◆ Further measures after reconnection of voltage supply:
