Special tools, workshop equipment, test and measuring appliances and auxiliary items required

  • ◆ 3036 Counter hold tool
  • ◆ T10007 Refractometer
  • ◆ V.A.G 1306 Drip tray
  • ◆ V.A.G 1331 Torque wrench (5...50 Nm)
  • ◆ VAS 5024 Assembly tool for spring-type clips

Notes:

  • ◆ The integrated coolant pump seal must not be separated from the coolant pump.
  • ◆ Damaged or leaking coolant pumps must be replaced complete with seal.

Removing

  • ‒ Drain coolant
  • ‒ Remove toothed belt , removing, installing and tensioning toothed belt.
  • ‒ Remove camshaft sprocket. When loosening camshaft sprocket bolt counter-hold with 3036.

  • ‒ → Unscrew securing bolts -arrows- from rear toothed belt guard and coolant pump.
  • ‒ Remove rear toothed belt guard.
  • ‒ Remove coolant pump from cylinder block.

Installing

Installation is carried out in the reverse order, when doing this note the following:

  • ‒ Fit coolant pump with rear toothed belt guard and tighten bottom securing bolts.
        Tightening torque: 20 Nm
  • ‒ Tighten three upper securing bolts for rear toothed belt guard.
        Tightening torque: 10 Nm (insert with D6)
  • ‒ Install camshaft sprocket and tighten new bolt (use counter-hold tool 3036).
    Tightening torque:
        20 Nm and 1/4turn (90 °) further.

Installing toothed belt and adjusting timing.

Filling with new coolant.
