Checking radiator fan after-run control unit -J138

The -V7 coolant fan is only controlled by the engine control unit for engine code AHF.

Fan actuation after switching off the engine is only implemented:

  • ◆ If coolant temperature is above 100 °C
  • and
  • ◆ Calculated fuel consumption in the last 10 minutes exceeds a certain value, i.e. the engine was under a considerable load.
 
→ perform final control diagnosis and activate fan relay .
Final control diagnosis    ⇒
Blower relay -J323
  • Radiator fan must switch on every 5 seconds and then stop again

Note:

The radiator fan may also be activated by the thermoswitch, the automatic gearbox or the air conditioner. Please ensure that actuation does not occur for any of these reasons during final control diagnosis

  • ‒ If necessary, allow engine to cool down.
  • ‒ If radiator fan is not actuated, connect up test box => Page 23-39.
  • ‒ Connect socket 31 (relay cable) to socket 27 (earth).
  • The radiator fan must run.
  • ‒ If the radiator fan now runs, but did not during final control diagnosis, replace diesel direct injection system .
  • ‒ If the radiator fan does not run, test cable connections for continuity and repair if necessary.
