Test signals from and to automatic gearbox

A - gearshift signal

This signal causes the injection quantity to be briefly reduced (torque reduction) during gearshifts in order to smooth out the jolts experienced when changing gear.

  • ‒ Read measured value block, display group 09, engine at idling speed

→ Indicated on display:
Read measured value block 9    ⇒
    1    2    3    4
  • ‒ Check display in display zone 3.
  • Specified value: 51 mg/stroke
Important:
Second person is required to operate V.A.G 1551.
  • ‒ Accelerate the vehicle from a stationary position with full throttle, but without using kick down.

→ Observe display zone 3 when shifting into 2nd gear
Read measured value block 9    ⇒
    1    2    3    4
  • Specified value: display should drop briefly below 51 mg/stroke

Note:

Because of the lag in data transfer, there might be a delay before the display reaches the specified value.

If specified value is not attained:

  • ‒ Connect test box V.A.G 1598/22 to wiring harness for engine control unit .

The following wiring connections are to be checked for open circuits and/or short to positive or negative.

  • ‒ Rectify any open/short circuit as necessary.

B - Accelerator pedal position signal

This signal is required for calculating gearshift points according to engine load.

The signal is monitored by the self-diagnosis function (fault memory, read measured value block) of the automatic gearbox control unit.

=> Automatic Gearbox; Repair group 01

C - Engine speed signal

This signal is required for calculating how to smooth out the gearshifts.

D - Kickdown signal

The signal is monitored by the self-diagnosis function (fault memory, read measured value block) of the automatic gearbox control unit.
