Self-diagnosis
Connecting fault reader V.A.G 1551 and selecting engine electronic control unit
 
A01-0001

Test conditions

  • ● Battery voltage at least 11 V
  • ● Fuse OK.
  • ‒ → Unclip cover for diagnostic connectors.
  • ‒ Connect fault reader V.A.G 1551 or vehicle system tester V.A.G 1552 with cable V.A.G 1551/3.
 
→ Indicated on display:
V.A.G - SELF-DIAGNOSIS    HELP
1 - Rapid data transfer*
2 - Flash code output*

* Displays appear alternately

Note:

If the display remains blank:

=> Fault reader operating instructions

Depending on the function required:

  • ‒ Switch on ignition
  • or
  • start engine , "Available functions" table.
  • ‒ Switch on printer using the Print button
    (warning lamp in button lights up).
  • ‒ Press key 1 for "Rapid data transfer".
 
→ Indicated on display:
Rapid data transfer    HELP
Enter address word XX

 
→ Press keys 0 and 1 for address word "Engine electronics" and press the Q key to confirm entry.

→ If one of the messages shown appears on the display, run through the fault finding procedure as described in the diagnostic wire fault-finding program.
