Testing throttle valve position

Notes:

  • ◆ This signal has various functions. In conjunction with the engine speed signal it enables the automatic gearbox control unit to calculate the engine torque output.
  • ◆ The signal is a pulse-width modulated square wave signal (duty cycle) and is taken from contact 7 on the engine control unit.
  • ‒ Connect fault reader V.A.G 1551
    .
  • ‒ Start self-diagnosis on gearbox control unit.

=> Automatic Gearbox 01M; Rep.-Gr. 01; Performing self-diagnosis

  • ‒ If the gearbox control unit displays fault 00638 "Engine/gearbox electrical connection 2", interrogate fault memory of engine control unit => Page 01-7.
  • ‒ If the engine control unit has recorded a fault related to the throttle valve potentiometer, rectify this fault first. (In this case the fault in the gearbox is a result of the fault in the potentiometer.)

A28-0022
  • ‒ → If no fault related to the throttle valve potentiometer is in the memory, connect test box V.A.G 1598/22 to wiring harness for engine control unit => Page 24-8.
  • ‒ Test for open circuit and shorts in wiring between contact 7 and gearbox control unit.
