All the functions implemented to date using V.A.G 1551/1552 can also be performed with the new vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 in vehicle self-diagnosis mode.

  • ◆ Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051

Test requirements

  • ● Fuse OK
  • ● Battery voltage at least 11.5 V.
  • ● Switch off air conditioner.
  • ● On vehicles with automatic gearbox, selector lever must be set to "P" or "N".

Sequence of operations

  • ‒ → Use diagnostic wire VAS 5051/1 to connect up vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
Attention:
  • ◆ If measurements/tests have to be performed whilst driving, vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051is always to be attached to rear seat and operated from there.


Depending on desired function:

  • ‒ Switch on ignition.

Selecting mode:

  • ‒ → Select "Vehicle self-diagnosis" function on VAS 5051.

  • ‒ On display, select
    "01 - Engine electronics".

Notes:

  • ◆ Vehicle system selection prompt appears in display zone -1-.
  • ◆ "Scrolling" screen display with bar -2- permits display of vehicle systems (for all vehicle models and equipment levels) which are envisaged for self-diagnosis but are not currently visible on the screen.

  • ‒ Refer to repair operations for further procedure.
