Testing auxiliary signals
Testing power steering pressure switch

The power steering pressure switch is used to stabilise the idling speed when the steering wheel is at full lock (left or right).

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items

  • ◆ Hand multimeter V.A.G 1526 or V.A.G 1526 A
  • ◆ Fault reader V.A.G 1551 (or vehicle system tester V.A.G 1552) with cable V.A.G 1551/3
  • ◆ Adapter set V.A.G 1594
  • ◆ Test box V.A.G 1598/22
  • ‒ Select "Read measured value block" (function 08) and Display Group 019.
  • ‒ Start the engine.
 
→ Indicated on display:
Read measured value block    19    ⇒
    1    2    3    4
  • ‒ Check display in display zone 3.

Specification: 1 X X = no signal from power steering pressure switch

  • ‒ Turn steering wheel to full lock (left or right).

Specification: 0 X X = signal from power steering pressure switch

Value: X = (no meaning)

  • ‒ → If the readout on the display is not as specified, connect test box V.A.G 1598/22 to wiring harness for engine control unit .
  • ‒ Test the following wiring connections for open circuits or short circuits to positive or earth and rectify if necessary:
