Testing throttle valve control part (vehicles with cruise control)
Testing idling speed switch (vehicles with cruise control)
  • ‒ Select "Read measured value block" (function 08) and Display Group 098=>Page 01-146.
 
→ Indicated on display:
Read measured value block    98    ⇒
x.xxx V    x.xxx V    Idling    ................

Display zone 3 should read "Idling".

  • ‒ Gradually open throttle valve.
 
→ Indicated on display:
Read measured value block    98    ⇒
X,XXX V    X,XXX V    Part throt    .................

Display zone 3 should read "Part throt" (part throttle).

  • ‒ Gradually release throttle valve.
 
→ Indicated on display:
Read measured value block    98    ⇒
x.xxx V    x.xxx V    Idling    ................

Display zone 3 should read "Idling" again.

  • ‒ If the display is not as specified, switch off ignition and connect test box V.A.G 1598/22 to wiring harness for engine control unit.
  • ‒ Measure resistance between sockets 67 and 69 using hand-held multimeter V.A.G 1526.

Specification: continuity (throttle valve closed)

  • ‒ Open throttle slightly.

Specification: idling speed switch should open (no continuity)

  • ‒ If the value is not as specified, test for open circuit in wiring and check for dirt on the contacts. If necessary, clean the contacts and perform adaption process.
  • ‒ If the value is still not as specified, check the throttle valve for dirt or stiffness and clean if necessary.
  • ‒ Repeat adaption of throttle valve control part
    =>Page 24-74.
  • ‒ If it is not possible to start the adaption of the throttle valve control part or if the procedure cannot be successfully completed, disconnect the throttle cable.
  • ‒ Repeat adaption of throttle valve control part
    =>Page 24-74.
  • ‒ If it is not possible to start the adaption of the throttle valve control part or if the procedure cannot be successfully completed, fit a new throttle valve control part.
  • ‒ Repeat adaption of throttle valve control part
    =>Page 24-74.
