Checking for contamination of throttle valve   Note t  Ensure that the correct type of air cleaner is fitted (genuine part) and that it is in proper condition. t  Intake air duct OK t  Fuel pressure OK t  Fuel tank breather function OK t  Injectors OK t  Coolant temperature > 80 °C Lambda probe learnt values and Lambda control function OK Cleaning throttle valve → Chapter Checking Lambda probe learnt values and Lambda control function –  Connect vehicle diagnosis and service information system -VAS 5052- to engine control unit. Engine must be idling. –  Select “Basic setting”.

Display on tester: 1 -  Enter display group (highest possible entry = 255) –  Use the keypad -2- to enter “032” for “Display group number 032” and confirm by touching the Q key.

Display on tester: –  Check the specification in display zone -2-.

Procedure –  Unplug the connector from the air mass meter. –  Connect up the vehicle diagnosis and service information system -VAS 5052- and select vehicle system “Engine electronics”. Engine must be idling. –  Select Basic setting.   Note

Display on tester: 1 -  Enter display group –  Enter “107” for “Display group number 107” and confirm by touching the Q key.

Display on tester: –  Check the display in zone -4-.

If the reading matches the specification “Syst. OK” in display zone 4: –  Touch the ▾ key. –  Re-connect the air mass meter. –  For further fault-finding, perform the next step in the fault table. If “Syst. n.OK” is displayed in zone 4: –  Touch the ▾ key. –  Use a lint-free cloth and cleaning fluid to clean the air duct in the throttle valve module. –  Perform throttle valve module adaption again → Chapter –  Repeat test sequence: Lambda control, short trip; Measured value block 107 in Basic setting 04 –  Re-connect the air mass meter. –  Erase the fault memory → Chapter. –  Perform a test drive. Heed the safety instructions → Chapter –  Fault memory interrogated → Chapter
