Test sequence
Test sequence
–  Unplug connector from Hall sender.
   
–  Connect multimeter between contacts 1 (positive) and 3 (earth) and between contacts 2 and 3 (earth) to measure voltage.
–  Switch on ignition.
t  Specification: 4.5... 5.5 V
  Note!
The Hall sender receives its power supply from the engine control unit.
If specifications are attained:
–  Fit a new Hall sender.
If the specifications are not attained:
–  Switch off ignition.
–  Connect test box -V.A.G 1598/31- to wiring harness for engine control unit. Do not connect to the engine control unit itself.

–  Check for open circuit and short to positive or earth in the following wiring connections:

–  Rectify any open/short circuit as necessary. → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
If no wiring fault was detected, but no voltage was present:
–  Renew engine control unit.
