Note:

The signal from the power steering pressure switch (F88) is used to stabilise the idling speed of the engine when the steering wheel is turned to full lock (left or right).

• ‒ Connect the fault reader V.A.G 1551 (V.A.G 1552). Start the engine and select the engine control unit with "Address word" 01.

• ‒ Press keys 0 and 8 for the function "Read measured value block" and confirm entry with Q key.

• ‒ Press keys 0,1 and 9 for "Display Group 19" and confirm entry by pressing Q.

• ‒ Observe figure displayed in display zone 4:
      Specification: x x x x x x 0 x

• ‒ Turn the steering wheel to full lock and observe the display in display zone 4 (2nd position from right) .
      Specification: x x x x x x 1 x
• ‒ Press the ⇒-key.
• ‒ Press keys 0 and 6 for the function "End output" and confirm entry with the Q key.
• ‒ Switch off ignition.

If the specification is not attained:

• ‒ → Connect test box V.A.G 1598/22 to wiring harness for control unit.
• ‒ Check wiring between test box and 2-pin connector for open circuit using current flow diagram.
      Contact 1+socket 24
      Contact 2+socket 14
      Wire resistance: max. 1.5 ω.
• ‒ Additionally check all wires for short to one another.
      Specification: infinite resistance.

If no wiring fault is detected:

• ‒ Connect multimeter V.A.G 1526 (resistance measurement range) to the contacts of the pressure switch:
• ‒ Start the engine and run at idling speed.

The multimeter should display infinite resistance (pressure switch is open).

• ‒ Turn steering wheel to full lock.
      The pressure switch must switch to continuity.

The multimeter should display a resistance value of less than 1.5 ohm.

If the specifications are not attained:

• ‒ Renew power steering pressure switch:

=> Running gear, Axles, Steering; Repair Group 48; Vane pump, Reservoir, Hydraulic pipes
