|
Intake air mass - see Display Group 00
|

|
Notes on display zones 3 and 4:
-
◆ The engine speed sender on the crankshaft transmits both an engine speed signal and a reference mark signal. The reference mark signal is generated by a gap in the sender wheel.
-
◆ The Hall sender rotor ring on the camshaft has a 180°division so that for one half of each camshaft revolution it covers the window on the Hall sender and for the other half revolution the window is exposed.
-
◆ To synchronise the components when starting, the engine control unit records the instant when the rotor ring begins to cover the window (signal change from - to + ) and the instant when it begins to expose the window (signal change from + to - ).
-
◆ When the reference mark signal on the crankshaft is detected, the engine control unit counts the number of teeth on the crankshaft mounted sender wheel. As soon as it has counted between 26 and 30 teeth after the gap, the signal sent by the Hall sender on the camshaft should change from - to + (rotor ring begins to cover window). After between 86 and 90 teeth, with the crankshaft already making its second revolution, the Hall sender signal should change from + to - (rotor ring begins to expose window).
-
◆ If the signal does not change within the tooth ranges specified above, this may mean that the toothed belt has slipped.

Notes on 8 digit number block:
-
◆ The 8 digit number block is composed of eight separate elements known as "bits".
-
◆ A sequence of bits (e.g. the sequence of eight in the 8 digit number block) is read from right to left. In the above example, the first bit indicates the mixture status, and the eighth bit indicates whether a fault has been recorded in the fault memory.
-
◆ If the fifth bit is a "1" (Restricted operation mode), this means that the lambda control is currently operating within a constant engine load range (e.g. idling or driving at a constant engine speed).
-
◆ Continued on next Page
Notes on 8 digit number block in Display Group 99, display zone 4 (cont.):
-
◆ Normally the first bit (Mixture status) should fluctuate constantly between "0" and "1".
-
◆ If the fourth bit is a "1" (Lambda control at stop limit), the first bit (Mixture status) will indicate which stop limit the lambda control is working at, i.e. rich or lean.
-
◆ If the first bit remains constantly at "1", this means that the lambda control is at the "lean" stop limit but that the lambda probe is still registering a "rich" mixture.
-
◆ If the first bit remains constantly at "0", this means that the lambda control is at the "rich" stop limit but that the lambda probe is still registering a "lean" mixture.
-
◆ The functions of the lambda probe and the lambda control are counterposed, i.e. when the lambda probe is registering "rich" the lambda control must lean down the mixture. If the lambda probe is registering "lean" the lambda control must enrich the mixture.
-
◆ The lambda control cannot be switched off manually.
