Removing and installing brake master cylinder > < Brake servo/brake master cylinder - left-hand drive vehicles

Complete master cylinder and brake servo can be replaced independently of each other.
   
1 - Gasket
q   For brake servo
2 - Brake servo
q   Checking function
q   With the engine switched off, firmly depress the brake pedal several times (this reduces the vacuum present in the servo unit).
q   Then hold brake pedal in applied position employing moderate force and start engine. If the servo unit is working properly, the pedal will give slightly under foot (servo assistance becomes activated).
q   Separating from brake pedal → Chapter
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   Removing and installing (vehicles with 7-speed dual clutch gearbox, S tronic) → Chapter
q   Removing and installing (vehicles with TFSI engine) → Chapter
q   Removing and installing (RS 3) → Chapter
q   If faulty, renew complete.
3 - Seal
q   Renew
4 - Brake master cylinder
q   Cannot be repaired.
q   If faulty, renew complete.
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   Removing and installing (vehicles with TFSI engine) → Chapter
5 - Heat shield
q   Allocation → ETKA
6 - Hexagon nut, 20 Nm
q   Self-locking
q   Always renew if removed
7 - Brake line, 14 Nm
q   Brake master cylinder/secondary piston circuit to hydraulic unit
8 - Brake line, 14 Nm
q   Brake master cylinder/primary piston circuit to hydraulic unit
9 - Sealing plug
q   Lubricate with brake fluid and insert into brake master cylinder
10 - Brake fluid reservoir
q   Lubricate with brake fluid and insert in sealing plugs in brake master cylinder
q   With integrated warning contact for brake fluid level (gradual introduction)
q   Replacement of warning contact involves removing brake fluid reservoir
q   Press brake fluid reservoir into sealing plugs
11 - Filler cap
q   With integrated float and warning contact for brake fluid level
12 - Vacuum pipe
q   With non-return valve
13 - Sealing plug

   
Checking inner bellows at brake servo
–  Remove driver's storage compartment → Rep. gr.68.
–  Check that bellows has not slipped out of circumferential groove as shown in illustration.
