Removing and installing mounting bracket Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Hose clamps, up to 25 mm -3094-

t  Sealing tool -T10249-

Removing –  Move driver's seat away from pedals.   Caution When disconnecting the battery there is a risk of serious damage to electronic components: Observe the correct procedure for disconnecting the battery. –  Remove battery → Rep. Gr.27. –  Remove air cleaner housing → Rep. Gr.24. –  Remove battery tray -arrows- (detach front of battery tray from air duct if applicable).   Note t  In the following steps make sure that no brake fluid escapes onto the longitudinal member or onto the gearbox below. If this does happen, clean the affected area thoroughly. t  Place a lint-free cloth under the master cylinder.

–  Use hose clamp -3094- to clamp off supply hose to clutch master cylinder.

–  Pull supply hose -1- off clutch master cylinder. –  Additionally seal off supply hose -1- using sealing tool -T10249/1- (⇒ illustration above). –  Release securing clip -2- and disconnect pipe -3-. –  Unclip and detach clutch position sender -G476- from clutch master cylinder -arrow-. Electrical connector -4- can remain connected.

–  Remove storage compartment on driver's side → Rep. Gr.68. –  Unscrew bolt -arrow A- and remove footwell air outlet (front left) -1-. –  Unclip wiring harness at rear of footwell air outlet -1- and move clear to one side. –  Unbolt crash bar -2- (secured by one or two bolts -arrows B-, depending on version).   Note When performing work in the footwell, put cloths on the carpet to protect it from possible brake fluid spills.

–  Remove nuts -2-. –  Take out mounting bracket -1-. Installing Installation is carried out in reverse sequence; note the following:   Note t  Renew self-locking nuts. t  Renew damaged O-rings. t  Secure all hose connections with the correct hose clips (as original equipment); refer to → Electronic parts catalogue.

–  Fit mounting bracket -1- and tighten nuts -2-. Tightening torque → Item –  Connect pipe/hose assembly or plastic pipe → Fig.. –  Bleed clutch system → Chapter. –  Install crash bar → Fig.. –  Install front footwell vent (left-side) → Rep. Gr.80. –  Install storage compartment on driver's side → Rep. Gr.68. –  Install battery tray and battery → Rep. Gr.27. –  Install air cleaner housing → Rep. Gr.24.
