Removing and installing particulate filter Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  -3253/5- from assembly tool -3253-

t  Tool set, 17 mm -T10395- t  Flange bolt M10x35

Removing –  Remove Lambda probe → Rep. gr.23. Vehicles with four-wheel drive: –  Remove propshaft → Rear final drive 02D, 0AV, 0BR and 0BY; Rep. gr.39. –  Remove bevel box → Rep. gr.34. All vehicles (continued): –  Unplug electrical connector -5- for exhaust gas temperature sender 3 -G495- and move electrical wiring clear.   Note Disregard items marked -1 ... 4-.

–  Slacken bolt -2- and remove clamp.   Note Disregard -items 1, 3-.

–  Unplug electrical connector -2- on exhaust gas pressure sensor 1 -G450-. –  Remove bolts -1- and -3- and detach exhaust gas pressure sensor 1 -G450- from bracket -arrow-.

Vehicles with front-wheel drive: –  Remove front right wheel. –  Remove noise insulation -1- → Rep. gr.50.

–  A3 Cabriolet: Remove noise insulation frame -arrow- → Rep. gr.50.

–  A3 Cabriolet: Remove bolts -1- and -2- and take off diagonal strut (left-side).

–  Remove bolts -arrows- and detach heat shield for drive shaft (right-side). –  Unbolt drive shaft (right-side) from gearbox flange. –  Push drive shaft (right-side) towards the front.

All vehicles (continued): –  Remove bolts -2- and -3- securing pendulum support.   Note Disregard -item 1-.

–  Press engine/gearbox assembly towards lock carrier and support via pendulum support as shown in illustration. A -  Flange bolt M10x35

–  Unscrew exhaust gas temperature sender 4 -G648--item 1- from exhaust pipe behind particulate filter using a tool from tool set, 17 mm -T10395-.   Note Disregard -item 2-.

–  Remove nuts -1- and -2- and detach bracket for particulate filter.

Caution Avoid damage to flexible joint. Do NOT bend flexible joint in front exhaust pipe more than 10°. –  Loosen nuts for clamp -1- and push clamp to rear.   Note Disregard -arrows-.

–  Remove nuts -1- and -2- and detach rear cross member on vehicle underside.   Note A second person will be required for detaching rear section of exhaust system. –  Unhook rear silencer and centre silencer at rubber mountings -arrows- and remove rear section of exhaust system.

–  Remove nuts -arrows-. –  Remove lock washers -2- and -3-. –  Pull inner side of cover on vehicle underside down slightly until heat shield -1- for centre tunnel can be detached.

–  Remove bolts -arrows- securing bracket for exhaust system.

–  Remove particulate filter by rotating through 180° and about its own axis. Installing Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following: l  Tightening torques → Chapter „Silencers - exploded view“   Note t  Renew gaskets, self-locking nuts and clamp for particulate filter. t  Fit all cable ties in the original positions when installing.

–  Note sequence when installing particulate filter:

1.	Fit particulate filter to turbocharger, attach clip -1- without tightening
2.	Fit bolts -2 ... 5- by hand without tightening l  It must still be possible to move particulate filter and bracket
3.	Tighten clamp -1-
4.	Tighten bolts -2- and -5-.
5.	Tighten bolts -3- and -4-.

–  Install underbody cover → Rep. gr.66. –  A3 Cabriolet: Install noise insulation frame → Rep. gr.50. –  Install pendulum support → Rep. gr.34. –  A3 Cabriolet: Install diagonal strut → Rep. gr.42. –  Install exhaust gas temperature sender 4 -G648- → Chapter. Vehicles with front-wheel drive: –  Install drive shaft → Rep. gr.40. –  Install heat shield for drive shaft (right-side) → Fig.. –  Fit front wheel (right-side) → Wheels and tyres; Rep. gr.44. Vehicles with four-wheel drive: –  Install bevel box → Rep. gr.34. –  Install propshaft → Rear final drive 02D, 0AV, 0BR and 0BY; Rep. gr.39. All vehicles (continued): –  Align the exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter. –  Electrical connections and routing → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations. –  Install Lambda probe -G39- and exhaust gas pressure sensor 1 -G450- → Rep. gr.23. –  After renewing particulate filter, perform Adaption in Guided Functions → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
