Contact corrosion!
Contact corrosion!
t  In addition to the manual gearboxes with aluminium housings, the Audi A4 2001 is also fitted with a manual gearbox featuring a magnesium alloy housing. Identification → .
t  Bolts and other components coming into direct contact with the gearbox housing have a surface coating that is designed to be compatible with either aluminium or magnesium.
t  On gearboxes built of magnesium, the bolts must always be replaced on the following bolted connections: gearbox cover to gearbox housing and final drive cover to gearbox housing.
t  If the incorrect components are used (bolts, nuts, washers etc.), this will cause contact corrosion. The gearbox housing will be damaged.
t  The gearbox housing, gearbox cover and cover for final drive must also all be of the same material.
t  If you are not sure whether used parts can be re-installed, always fit new parts.
  WARNING
t  Only use Genuine Audi parts.
t  Damage resulting from contact corrosion is not covered by the warranty.
