Removing cylinder head (left-side) Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Poly-drive key -3452- Removing l  Engine in vehicle.   Caution Observe notes on procedure for disconnecting the battery → Electrical system; Rep. Gr.27. –  With ignition switched off, disconnect earth strap from battery.   Note All cable ties which are released or cut open when removing must be refitted in the same position when installing. –  Remove intake manifold → Chapter.

–  Remove crankcase breather hose -arrows-. –  Remove front exhaust pipe (left-side) → Chapter.

–  Detach vacuum hose -1- at combination valve. –  Disconnect coolant hose -3-. –  Unscrew hose connection -4-. –  Remove bolts -2- and -5-. –  Unscrew bolts -7- and remove combination valve. –  Detach rear coolant pipe from cylinder head (2 bolts -6-).   Note t  The coolant pipe remains installed. t  Illustration shows engine removed. –  Remove toothed belt → Chapter. –  Take off camshaft sprocket.

–  Unbolt toothed belt cover (rear left) -arrows-. –  Detach electrical connectors from Hall sender and from camshaft control valve.

–  Unbolt coolant pipe from front of cylinder head -arrows-. –  Unbolt coolant pipe on left of cylinder head. –  Remove cylinder head cover (left-side) → Chapter.

–  Loosen cylinder head bolts in the sequence -1 ... 8-. –  Carefully remove cylinder head.
