Removing and installing seat occupied sensor

Note:

Seat occupied sensor to be introduced at a later date.

  • ‒ → Remove seat
  • ‒ Remove seat cover => Page 74-4

Note:

The sensor mat is supplied as spare part only in connection with seat heater and seat upholstery.

  • ‒ Press in locking lugs -3- and unplug connector -1- for seat occupied sensor from connector console -4-.
  • ‒ Detach earth cable from contact 4 of connector -1- using force as appropriate.
  • ‒ Unclip connector -5- and detach intermediate plug to backrest.
  • ‒ Remove seat upholstery together with sensor mat and seat heater from seatpan.
  • ‒ On installation, ensure that web -2- is facing in direction of tunnel.
  • ‒ After installing the sensor mat check function with V.A.G Tester 1551 => Function test of sensor mat, Page 69-92

Note:

  • ‒ Remove possible seat covers before each testing of sensor mat.

  • ‒ Connect V.A.G Tester 1551 => self-diagnosis
  • ‒ Select measured value block display group 03 => self-diagnosis
  • ‒ The measured value block no. 2 for seat occupied sensor on passenger's side displays "vacant".
  • ‒ → Press the individual sensor groups (circuits) manually until display changes from "unoccupied" to "occupied". Max. pressure 12 kg.

Note:

If "occupied" should appear without the sensor groups being pressed either the sensor mat is defective or the cover is too tight.
